Method and Metric is an S.E.O (search engine optimization) platform based around providing clients/users important information about the performance of their websites. This platform allows users to see
real-time/live analytics, historical performance analysis over time, and suggest options for improvement depending on the client/user’s preset goals.
Method and Metric caters to not only professionals but also new and inexperienced users. Our main objectives were to improve their existing platform and help new users understand the system, guiding them to:
1. Get familiar with the platform-tools
2. Set personal goals
3. Understand the way the platform benefits their needs
To learn more about how we can improve Method and Metric’s current platform we had to research other platforms and learn more about the S.E.O space and our users.
The process included:
1. Competitive comparative analysis
2. Site map
3. User flow and use case
4. Sketch out wireframes
5. Produce a clean UI design
6. Create an easy user learning curve and an efficient progressive onboarding process
In the domain research, we wanted to find out more about what kind of companies are in the space and perform a competitive comparative analysis
Domain reseach:
competitive comparative analysis:
In this stage we:
1. Deployed surveys via google surveys
2. Conducted 7 in-depth, 45 minutes remote interviews via ZOOM with digital marketers, content writers and potential new users.
1. Difficulties with SEO buy-in
2. Challenges in tracking SEO
3. Insufficient automation and hands-off features
4. Learning curve too high for SEO5. Progressive onboarding is essential
Taking into consideration our key findings we continued into the planning stage where we focused on creating the following items:
1. Affinity diagram
2. Proto-Persona as we had to work remotely we decided to create a proto-persona rather than a regular persona.
3. Storyboard
4. MVP (Minimal viable product)
5. User flow
6. Site map
After collecting information from the survey and interview process we continued to put everything into a virtual board and start grouping the items to better find similarities and commonalities.
We focused on grouping the diagram by:
1. Demographics
2. Current software use
3. Business needs
4. Barriers and pain points
5. Needs and wants
Brian is a young professional and is seeking to grow his new business in the market.
Brian wanted to invest in SEO software to help analyze his business growth, but due to his financial limitations, most SEO services are too expensive.
Brian wants to be able and learn how he can generate more traffic. But most software is too complicated to understand.
In order to escape this stress, Brian looks for better SEO software with an easy to use platform at Method + Metric.
Taking a step back and viewing all the information with a wider lens, we were able to spot key points and features our users needed, wanted, or were frustrated with.
Our platform user flow and progressive onboarding process user flow
During the design stage, we sketched quick screens to visualize the approach we wanted to take in our
UX and UI.
1. How the user experience progressive onboarding process will look
2. What would the dashboard convey
3. What kind of user interface design approach we implement to have a clean, simple, user-friendly feel
While designing we consistently performed user testing and proceeded to adjust the UX/UI accordingly
Including changes
We were able to accomplish a lot of in-depth research in a short amount of time by solely working remotely. During the process we found key insights that if implemented would benefit both Method and Metric and the end user / client.
